The historical city of Congonhas impresses with its sumptuous barroque architecture and its welcoming village houses.

The city possesses one of the most impressive barroque construction in Brazil: the Santuary Jesus de Matosinhos which has been designated as World Heritage by the UNESCO in 1985. The human-sized sculptures of the twelve prophets, made of soap stone by the greatest artist of the barroque era in Brazil, Aleijadinho, attract  tourists from all over the world.
